Empowering Girls Through Menstrual Hygiene Education

At PURE, we believe that education is a fundamental right for every child—regardless of gender, location, or social background. Unfortunately, for many girls, menstruation remains a barrier to accessing education. Cultural taboos, lack of resources, and a general lack of knowledge often prevent girls from managing their menstrual hygiene adequately, leading to absenteeism, shame, and missed opportunities.

PUREFemme is our menstrual hygiene awareness campaign dedicated to breaking these barriers and empowering adolescent girls. Our mission is to ensure that menstruation does not hinder a girl’s right to education. By providing the resources, education, and support needed to manage menstruation with dignity, we aim to create a culture of openness, understanding, and respect around menstruation.

Our Goal

The primary goal of PUREFemme is to equip young girls with the knowledge and resources to manage their menstrual health safely and confidently. We aim to:

Educate girls about menstrual hygiene and its impact on their health, education, and well-being.
Facilitate access to menstrual hygiene products and demonstrate their proper use, ensuring that girls can attend school without the fear of stigma or discomfort.
Normalize the conversation around menstruation by involving teachers, boys, and the wider community, thereby fostering a supportive environment.
Break cultural taboos surrounding menstruation to create an inclusive, empowering educational atmosphere where menstruation is no longer seen as a taboo topic.

What We Do

1. Menstrual Hygiene Education

We provide interactive, age-appropriate sessions for adolescent girls, where they learn about the menstrual cycle, hygiene practices, and how to care for their health during menstruation. These sessions empower girls with accurate, essential knowledge, helping them manage their menstrual health confidently and without fear.

2. Access to Hygiene Products

PUREFemme works to ensure that all girls, regardless of their socio-economic background, have access to affordable and quality menstrual hygiene products. Through partnerships with local organizations and distributors, we aim to make sanitary pads, tampons, and other essential hygiene items available in schools and communities.

Our goal is to remove the financial and logistical barriers that prevent girls from obtaining the products they need to manage their periods hygienically and with dignity.

3. Involving Teachers and Boys

We believe that menstruation should be a normal and open topic of conversation. That's why PUREFemme includes Teachers and Boys in the discussion. By engaging male students and male teachers, we break down the stigma surrounding menstruation and foster empathy, understanding, and mutual support. We encourage boys to be advocates for menstrual health and help normalize the conversation, reducing any feelings of embarrassment or shame.

Teachers, both male and female, are trained to lead conversations about menstruation, providing a safe and supportive environment where girls feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their concerns.

Creating a safe and supportive school environment is essential for ensuring that menstruation does not cause girls to miss school or drop out. PUREFemme promotes:
