PURE Youth Columbus

Ohio

PURE Youth, a leadership program, specifically aims to facilitate discussion and awareness of the impact that education has on society through numerous projects and fundraising. PURE Youth also supports projects from all program areas and causes PURE champions which gives the ambassadors an opportunity to understand the depth and breadth of the issue, solution and impact on the lives they are helping change.

The youth team was unofficially started in the 2016 with just 2 children.
In 2017, Deepa Kamalakara, COO of PURE, gathered a group of kids and explained to them about a non-profit organization and asked if they would be willing to volunteer and be a part of a youth team, a chapter where they lived, in Dublin, Ohio.

At first, the kids volunteered to do small tasks like books for Bharat, a project where youth ambassadors went door to door asking for extra books that could be donated to libraries for schools in India, and setting up a sanitary napkin drive for PURE feminine hygiene program.

Eventually, the group grew and began raising money at events, one of the first being a women’s cricket tournament in 2018. The group has continued to grow and currently has 17 youth ambassadors. we hope to grow as a team, and help children both locally and internationally.

Led By Children, For Children

Testimonials

PURE is an organization that I support passionately and I enjoy being in the position to help others thrive. The philosophy of this organization is fundamental to knowing how we support the community and the world around us. I made many relationships and memories as I supported PURE, and I look forward to making many more as the years go on. I believe this organization is making big steps to help the world become a better place. Giving children opportunities that can change their life for the future changes you. Being an ambassador in this organization makes me believe that I’m changing the world with my own hands alongside others. PURE Youth is a source of happiness.
- Tanvi Bavisetty

PURE is an organization that helps children in many areas around the world to gain a proper education. When I volunteer for PURE, I feel proud to be one of the people helping provide children a good education. I just think of how I am helping make these children’s lives better for them. I chose to be a part of PURE because I wanted a chance to help these children in need. Anytime we volunteer an event, I like how we are helping children in areas across the world and the big impact it is making for them and their lives. PURE is a memorable experience that I wish to continue for many years to come.
- Tanvi Chalumalla

Being a PURE Youth ambassador has been an amazing experience forme. I’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to interact with many different people and gain new experiences. My time as a PURE ambassador has also allowed me to improve my leadership skills and learn more about the world, not only helping me become a well-rounded individual today but also preparing me for the future. The best part about being a PURE ambassador, though, is having the chance to be a part of something bigger than myself and make a real difference in the world. For me, education has always been an important factor in my life, and to be able to help children around the world attain education by removing hurdles is extremely fulfilling. The direct impact we cause through our fundraisers makes me extremely grateful and happy to be a part of PURE and its mission to empower children through education.
- Yashas Appaji

I like PURE because they help underprivileged, orphans and street kids all over the world. PURE helps provide an education to these children. It is such a good cause and I loved the idea of helping children. I got into the youth chapter of Ohio and volunteered my time and effort to helping the children. My favorite part about PURE is that we go to places all over Central Ohio and set up fundraisers at events in those areas. I love selling food and helping out with the fundraisers because it is a fun learning experience and I am also helping children in need
- Vibhaas Appaji

PURE has provided me with the unbelievable experience of influencing the lives of young children. In the summer of 2019, I was lucky enough to visit a PURE school in India and see the true impact PURE had made on the education of underprivileged children. When I visited, the most noticeable thing was the brightest smiles on the young girls. They seemed incredibly appreciative of what PURE had done for their academics. Seeing the impact of the hard work from the youth chapters has truly helped the children achieve an improved education. After this experience, I became thankful for PURE for giving me the opportunity to change the lives of others.
- Sanjana

Being part of the PURE team has helped me so much these past few years. The other day I had an interview for another volunteering program and they asked me about a time when I got to help other people and better my life in the process. My first thought was PURE. I told them about how I got to improve lives both directly and indirectly by sending supplies to people in need in places like India, were I go every summer and am forced to witness how people in need are constantly ignored. And directly by donating books to school children here in Columbus. PURE has taught me that poverty is everywhere, we must acknowledge it and make a change, because it will impact the lives our community members positively and hopefully encourage others to volunteer on the way.
- Hainvi Gullapali

Being a part of the PURE Youth team is always very fun and puts a smile on all of our faces. I love the teamwork, communication and dedication of all of the team members. Most importantly it makes me very happy to be able to give back to the community and to others that are less fortunate.
- Hrushi

Being a part of PURE allowed me to understand the needs of underprivileged areas. The children in these areas receive aid from PURE to obtain an education. This has made a major impact on places where basic necessities are not found. I enjoy spending time with the team during fundraising and have learned valuable life skills such as leadership and marketing. Volunteering with PURE, I am able to appreciate the smiles on underprivileged children’s faces and see the difference I can make in the world.
- Sahithi Sadineni

Helping others and making an impact on the world has always been my main goal. Joining Pure has helped me achieve this goal by providing individuals opportunities to a better life. From learning how to sew masks to cooking food for homeless shelters, I have learned so many skills. Being a part of PURE made me realize how fortunate I am to live the life I am living right now, and how others don’t get to experience the same things I do. So if I am given the opportunity to positively influence someone’s life, I will take it in a heartbeat.
- Sahasra Mangapuram

Volunteering for PURE makes me feel great because I know about the impact I have on my community. The dedication of the PURE team is great and it’s goals of helping underprivileged communities with education is one that everyone can and should support. PURE is a great organization and I am very grateful for being involved in it.
- Krish Badri

My name is Ashna Billakanti and I am currently a sophomore at my high school. I joined PURE around a year ago, the summer before my freshman year, and saying I love this program is an understatement. One of my favorite things about this program is how we give back to our community and the underprivileged. The activities that we do to help rural areas are fun to participate in as well. Our PURE community is very positive and productive and the students in it are so ambitious, I can't wait to see what we have in store for the future and what impact we will make.

Achievements

Prithvi Mekala

Hi! My name is Prithvi Mekala & I’m a varsity volleyball player at Jerome HS and a national-level volleyball player for an Ohio based club named Vanguard. From Chicago to Florida to St Louis and Pennsylvania, our team has traveled across the nation to compete at several competitions. Making it into the most competitive volleyball club out of the 16 that exist in Ohio is a result of my hard work and passion. I have had the honor to apply this same passion to PURE, as the Ohio Chapter’s youth co-director. What I love most about these two initiatives is the teamwork. Whether that may be on the court with my volleyball team or in the community with my fellow pure youth team, I feel most fulfilled when I collaborate with others to accomplish a common goal.

Sanjana Mangapuram

Although PURE is one of my proud achievements, I have participated in a couple other activities. I am currently involved in a scholarship program called PFS that provides academic aid for the children of First Responders. As the Director of Operations of the program, I have worked to create the website, host fundraising events, and become further involved with my community. So far, the program has successfully given out 10 scholarships valued at $2500 and strives to make a larger impact in the future.

Sumedha Vadlamani

https://youtu.be/8zqFVThRqHw - link to my ted talk

My name is Sumedha Vadlamani and I am the TED-Ed club president at Dublin Jerome Highschool. From presenting in our school’s auditorium to an official TED sanctioned event, my goal has always been to both speak about advancements and innovative ideas as well as teach and help others develop and present their ideas as well. In 2019, I was approached by a fellow Dublin City Schools and was asked if I would be interested in giving a Ted Talk at an official TedX event, TEDx Innovation Dr. I immediately said yes I thought it was a great way to spark conversation and bring about change. My talk addressed the idea that women around the globe are not treated equally. Even in 2019, women and children in Africa are oppressed and are not given the opportunities to thrive. Little girls live with little hope while women fail to reach their potentials. Equal treatment and opportunities are essential for a nation to thrive. While being the PURE Youth Ohio Director, I spoke about the work of PURE and how through this organization we can bring about. change. Presenting this talk helped spark conversation concerning both the injustice occurring and PURE.

Hainvi Gullapalli

Hello, my name is Hainvi Gullapalli. Currently, I am a Sophomore and have been part of PURE Youth for about four years. I love to do out of school activities, and one of my favorites is Mock Trial. Mock Trial is pretty much a mock court. I have been a witness for two years, and this year I won my first Outstanding Witness award. I love Mock Trial because it takes me out of my comfort zone and boosts my confidence. Taking on the role of a different character in front of an entire courtroom helps me learn to be a better public speaker, and improve my conversational skills. PURE does the same thing, as it's an opportunity to meet and connect with new people. It also helps with my public speaking because I get to talk about the good PURE does for the world at various events.

Akhil Deavela

Hello, my name is Akhil Deavela and I am a student at Dublin Jerome High School. Since my freshman year of high school, I have been on the debate team and that continued this year. Throughout the year, at local debate tournaments, I placed high enough to reach the State finals tournament on March 5th - 7th. In the State finals tournament, I placed 30th out of approximately 200 people in my event.

Yashas Appaji

Hello, my name is Yashas Appaji and I run cross country at Dublin Jerome High School. I have been running cross country since I was in 8th grade and I plan to continue it next year in my senior year of high school. Cross country is an incredibly grueling sport and one of the most difficult things I have done in my life, but despite this, I still have a love for the sport because of the feeling of accomplishment I get when I beat my personal record or complete a tough workout. Through exhausting training, cross country has taught me about the value of perseverance and hard work, and how these things can always lead to improvement. The skills I have learned from cross country have helped me in many parts of my life, including as a PURE Youth volunteer.

PURE Youth - Ohio

  1. What does volunteering mean to you?
  2. What do you think of giving the gift of education?
  3. How can Education help a person?
  4. What are your thoughts on Giving/Sharing in general?
Name What year did you join the Pure team Grade What does volunteering mean to you? What do you think about giving the gift of education? How can education help a person? What are your thoughts about giving/sharing in general?
Lasya Kopuri 2018 9 Volunteering to me means a way I can give back to the community. Through volunteering, I am able to help others who need support. Giving the gift of education is like giving a child a whole new future and opens up a whole new set of opportunities. Education can provide someone with a whole different life. If a child is educated, then he/she can go on to get a good job and can have a good life. Giving/sharing is a kind thing everybody should do.
Saritha Vadlamani 2017 Help someone in need Will help children be prepared for the future. Improve their lives The satisfaction of giving without expecting anything in return is immeasurable.
Srilatha Tummala 2015 Giving back to community in whatever way possible It is the most important and valuable gift a person can receive It furthers the possibilities of life and allows you to learn more about the world It is the least we can do with the valuable resources available to us
Hainvi Gullapalli 2016 10th Giving back, I am blessed to have a loving family and community that accepts me, and where I can learn vital lessons to succeed in life through school. It is mind baffling to think that people just like me who live only a few miles away are stripped of basic necessities. By giving back our team attempts to give them a shot at success, by providing them with articles that could better their lives. The gift of education is something that shouldn’t have to be given in the first place. All people should be educated enough to make decisions about issues that could effect their lives, and make them more successful in their future. The gift of education is giving people the extra boost so they can better their lives. Education can push a person towards success, and enable them to make logical decisions about issues regarding them through politics or by making a change in their community. Giving or sharing is vital to humanity, all life has value, and by providing those less fortunate with educational opportunities we are providing them with them a chance to better their lives.
Purnima Muskula 2018 Giving back to the community & helping the needy people One of the best gift in the world Education not only help for getting job , but also helps in creating positive impact on one’s life to choose the correct path Distributing to others & teaches children about fairness & equal opportunity
Tanvi Bavisetty 2019 9 Volunteering means changing lives to me. Alongside with PURE and the other ambassadors, I hope to change the world with my own hands. Giving opportunities and education to people who don’t start off with them makes me happy and makes me believe that PURE is changing lives step by step. An education can give someone a future. It’s able to bring many opportunities to one’s life and establish a goal in life. My thoughts about giving and sharing are that it’s a general act of human kindness. When we have the power to do something that helps others and benefits the world why not take the chance and help others thrive.
Hrushi Muskula 2018 Xl Give back to the community & feels good to help others It makes me happy to be able to help provide education which will help people live a more prosperous life An education can be the difference between a dead end minimum wage job and a well paying job that leads to success. Giving and sharing will always be humbling because it helps to show that we are more fortunate than others and we should frequently give back.
Akhil Deavela 2019 11 Volunteering is giving and sharing with others the same opportunities that you may have received, but the people you are giving to may not be well equipped to reach those opportunities without help. Volunteering to help others is a great way to spend your time helping others get to the same opportunities as you Giving the gift of education is better for most people as it gives them the opportunity to keep earning money even if they are not receiving money directly from volunteer services. Some volunteer services that give people money directly often help the person in the moment but they may need help again in the future and can’t receive money. However if that person were educated they would have a better opportunity at getting a job and they will receive money as long as they hold a job. Education helps people in that it gives them a better opportunity to get a job which will give them money directly unlike a volunteer service that can only directly give them money a few times. Giving and sharing when you are in a better place than others is the best thing you can do with extra money because you are giving other human beings stuff that could be necessities or you can give them enough to get started in whatever they pursue that can get them out of poverty.
Yashas Appaji 2017 11 For me, volunteering means working to give back to those who are underprivileged, whether they are in my community or another. I believe that education is one of the most valuable things a person can have. Because of its ability to open up incredible opportunities, I think it is one of the valuable gifts a person can receive or give. Education can help to expand one's opportunities and give them the best possible chance to succeed and achieve their goals. I think that giving/sharing is a necessary component of being human. I think that as humans, we have a responsibility to look out for one another, and by sharing what we have with others, we can make sure that everyone can life a happy and fulfilling life.
Pranav Bavisetty 2019 7 It’s is a great opportunity to give back to people I think giving education is great, because that’s how people get jobs and have a good life Education can help a person through their whole life especially to get a job I think it feels good to give and share to other people
Pranav Bodempudi 2018 9 To me, volunteering gives me a way to connect with my community and gives me the opportunity to help others in a way that I would not have been able to do without it. I believe that the gift of education is the best gift you can give someone. This is because the gift of education lasts forever and will help someone throughout their life. Education can help a person by helping one develop a new perspective on life. This new perspective can help one see just how many opportunities they have in life. Education can also open new doors in people's lives that would not have been open without education. I believe that by giving and sharing people can help inspire others to do the same. This is because the people on the receiving end will realize how giving and sharing has impacted their lives and they will be motivated to help others in the same way.
Shreya Vadlamani 2018 9th Helping the less fortunate It’s a great gift because it can change people’s lives for ever. It can get people out of a bad life. It can give them a better life. It can end a cycle of no education in a family. Giving when you have the capability to give is great. It shows that you care.
Lakshmi Mekala 2017 Manava Seve Madhava Seva. I believe that serving mankind is serving god, as god is within everyone. I believe education is the most valuable gift one can receive. I also believe that education is a human right & should not be a luxury. Hence, I find it incredibly important to support those who do not have access to education. Education is the door to the pathway of an independent life. Education gives people the tools and confidence to truly be independent and find fulfilment in life. I truly believe in the spirituality of giving and sharing with those you love and those in need. It is the beauty of humankind. The most valuable gift to give and share, in my humble opinion, is knowledge & education.

Krishnaveni Musunuri 2017 I am volunteering with the desire to help and do good for the welfare of fellow human beings in need. Education is a most powerful weapon which can change the world and no child should be left behind without having this basic gift in their beautiful life ahead. Education is the key to success in many aspects of life for leading a better life as an Individual through out their life and a treasure that can be gifted from one generation to the next. We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give and I feel fortunate to be able to give/share with the people in need.

Vibhaas Appaji 2017 6 Volunteering means helping others that are in need of help. It will help kids educate themselves for a brighter future because I believe education not only helps with a better future but also be a better person. It helps build a better future. Prithvi Mekala 2016 12 Volunteering to me means giving opportunities and resources to those who aren’t as privileged. I strongly believe when you have the privilege to share knowledge, resources, and time you should selflessly give back to those in need. Education is something that everyone should have access to. It is unfortunate that education is not accessible to everyone. I wish in this world education was not a gift, but a basic necessity. Education allows people to pursue their dreams. Giving and sharing is the most fundamental aspect of being human. I believe that we are created to not only coexist, but share in hopes to bring balance in this world. I feel happiest when I can share and give back to not only my friends and family, but also to those in need.
