PURE Youth Charlotte

North Carolina

Charlotte’s PURE Youth chapter started in 2019 with a small group of students aged from elementary to high school. Since then, they have been supporting several different causes by fundraising through various projects. The team has had amazing success with their live, in-person fundraisers, as well as virtual fundraisers due to the recent pandemic. The entire Charlotte community is well aware and very supportive of PURE Youths efforts, and the Charlotte chapter is eager to continue creating change.

Projects :

Fall/Winter 2019 - Sports Kits

Our first project was raising funds to provide tribal schools in India with sports kits, as well as bicycles for students who were walking miles to commute to school. We successfully set up stalls at a Festival of India and Bathukamma event, where we offered chai complementary, and received a great number of donations.

Spring 2020 - Health Care Heroes

During the national surge of the Covid-19 pandemic, we provided health care workers with lunch from a local restaurant to show our immense appreciation and gratitude for them.

Summer 2020 - PURE Femme

Our first project with PURE Femme was to raise funds to manufacture sanitary napkins for young women in India. We successfully met our goals entirely virtually with our gofundme page.

Fall/Winter 2020 - Families Forward Charlotte

We supported our local homeless shelter by providing winter essential baskets for the struggling families in the first winter of the pandemic. We hosted a very safely organized essentials drive.

Spring 2021 - PURE Femme

Our second time supporting PURE Femme, we tried a different approach than the gofundme. We hosted a virtual trivia night, collecting funds by selling tickets. We got great feedback from this event, all participants saying they had competitive fun.

Summer 2021 - Vocational Training

When the restraints of the pandemic started to loosen, we took the opportunity to safely meet up in person after a year. We decided to sell mango lassi outside of a local Indian grocery store, where we received lots of money for vocational training for women in Uganda.

Winter 2021 - Second Harvest Food Bank

It was decided that another virtual fundraiser would be best for this project, for the safety of our ambassadors. We set up a webpage with our local food bank to raise funds to purchase food in bulk for the underprivileged. Every $1 donated raised 7 pounds of food, and we were able to raise a couple thousand pounds of food for our community!

Spring 2022- Rural Education in India

This time we decided to run two fundraiser projects, one at a local restaurant called Bayleaf, and the other at a local indian supermarket called Triveni, which we used in the summer of 2021 as well. Together we raised over 1000 dollars for our cause, which was a record breaking performance for us. By far our most successful project so far, and just showed to the team what we are capable of.

Summer 2022- Classroom Central

For our local project we as a chapter decided to help kids in underprivileged schools by raising supplies for an organization called classroom central. We raised hundreds of supplies from notebooks to pencils, as well as created flash cards to encourage students to learn. Overall a very successful project we completed even with many ambassadors away on break!

Winter 2022- PURE Wash

To help raise money for ZPHS schools in Andhra Pradesh, we resorted back to an older concept that has worked great in the past, which is setting up an informational stand at Triveni, a local indian supermarket. We were able to inform hundreds of people and raise over 500 dollars for this cause, meeting our goal. It was a great experience for the team which we celebrated with an Award Ceremony!

There are some of us who started with PURE Youth Charlotte at it’s beginning in 2019, and we gained many more along the way until now. And though we are sad to have seen two of our former directors graduate - we are left with their best advice, and will follow in their footsteps.

Testimonials

Joining the PURE Charlotte chapter in 2019 changed me as a person in so many ways. Not only did I gain volunteer and leadership experience, but I realized my privilege of having an education, something that millions of children don’t. From our stalls at festivals to trivia fundraisers virtually, PURE showed me the importance of teamwork and coordination. We faced challenges as a chapter that we progressively overcame. All of us, regardless of age, made sure we thoroughly understood what issues we were fundraising for, and the impact we would be making by reaching even small goals. We are blessed to be able to contribute to matters that can change the lives of others using the privilege we have, and we have PURE to thank for it.
- Anvi Pullalarevu

Since joining PURE Charlotte in 2020, I have learned and grown so much as a person and an active member of my community. I get to use my resources and privilege to help out people in my community and all around the world who are not as fortunate. Additionally, our chapter members care a lot about the projects and mission, which is evident through the effort put forth every season. Virtual or non-virtual, we've been working together continuously and I'm grateful to be a part of this team.
- Kundana Panuganti

Pure has taught me many things throughout my time being a member but most importantly I think it taught me to be a better human. I learned to earn money not just for myself, but to support a bigger cause for people in need. Not just earning money, but how to earn that money. From a trivia night to a drink stand. It’s also taught me how to work with a team, even through the struggles of Zoom. Thank you Pure for helping me be a better person.
- Karthik Bobba

Personally, PURE has had a great impact on me. With the organization being my first exposure to volunteering, community outreach, and overseas support I was able to understand how much good we can really do for others. I saw that all of our actions positively affected not only individuals but whole communities. I am very happy that I spent my time assisting those who really needed it rather than turning a blind eye to them and the issues they are facing. The last three projects were some of my favorites not only because of the cause we were fighting for but because they proved a small group of people such as our chapter can have a great impact on not just people across the globe but in our community as well. And thanks to our growing PURE community all across America, we have the potential to do much more good and continue to help those who need it, not just now but in the future as well. PURE helped me help others!
